David Silas is one of the oldest men in his village and throughout his life has witnessed great devastation a lack of clean water can cause. Underground wells have been the only source of water for people in this village for over forty years.
Deep in Vanuatu’s rural PENAMA Province, hidden between a forest of trees lays a small rippling stream. Throughout the day, many animals pass; wild cats and dogs cool down from the heat while cows drink from the stream.
It’s just a short 4 hour flight from Auckland, but it really is another world away. I’m in Lenakel Village on Tanna Island in Vanuatu where not only is there no power or water, there are no formed roads and our 4×4 had to drive through farm paddocks to get here.
